I have been a student at Mount Royal for about six years now, and I am very excited to be graduating in July. I enjoy studying English Renaissance drama. I'm hoping to further pursue this field in graduate studies.
In closely examining the works of Thomas Middleton, I argue that there is a connection between the presentation of female sexuality and dramatic narrative. This connection is dependent on the epithalamic tradition and the ways that Middleton subverts what would be considered the typical execution of wedding and social rituals. Middleton conflates marriage and rape while presenting female desire as a force that garners momentum from its ambiguity. His presentation of sexuality creates a narrative structure that follows a kind of logical progression.
